How These Scores Are Calculated

Safety Score (0–100): Violent crimes are weighted 3×, property/other crimes 1×. We sum weighted crimes per community area, divide by population, and scale to a rate per 1,000 residents. Rates are then normalized across all 77 areas — the highest rate becomes 0, the lowest becomes 100.

Intelligence Score (0–100): 50% Safety Score + 50% walkability/amenities. Walkability is currently a placeholder value pending integration of a real Walk Score (or equivalent) dataset — treat Intelligence Score as directional only until that lands.
